Panathinaikos and Ajax pursue Girona's Azzedine Ounahi in final transfer days

As the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion, the future of 26-year-old Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi remains uncertain. Although PSV Eindhoven was initially considered a strong candidate, the club withdrew from negotiations following the acquisition of other midfielders. Consequently, Panathinaikos has re-emerged as a primary suitor, with owner Giannis Alafouzos reportedly preparing a deal worth approximately 15 million euros, including bonuses, to bring the player back to Athens.

Meanwhile, international reports, including from Foot Mercato, indicate that Girona has authorized Ounahi to travel to Amsterdam for direct negotiations with Ajax. Despite having a contract through 2030 and an original release clause of 25 million euros, the player is seeking an exit following Girona's relegation to La Liga 2. Panathinaikos continues to push for the signing, aiming to make it a landmark deal for the Greek league, but has established a secondary transfer plan should the move for the Moroccan international fail to materialize before the window closes.
