LDLC Asvel forced to slash budget following failed investment deal

French basketball club LDLC Asvel has been forced into severe budget cuts after a planned 59 million euro budget was rejected. The financial crisis stems from the failure of an anticipated deal with a Malaysian investment fund, which LNB president Philippe Ausseur attributed to administrative over-optimism and the premature declaration of an unfinalized agreement. Consequently, the team's initial budget was reduced by 25 million euros, necessitating a significant restructuring of operations.

To prevent staff layoffs and maintain the current coaching team, Tony Parker, the club's leader and coach, agreed to a drastic 80% reduction in his own annual salary. According to reports from L'Équipe and Basketnews, Parker's expected compensation of 1.2 million euros was slashed to 240,000 euros. This financial fallout has already impacted the team roster, leading to the departures of players including Francisco, Theis, Brooks, and Weiler-Babb. Parker emphasized that his salary sacrifice was intended to protect his support staff from the consequences of the club's financial instability.
