Youth center volunteers call for government intervention at the Cyprus Youth Board

On August 26, 2026, volunteers from 60 youth centers associated with the Cyprus Organization of Youth Centers (KOKEN) addressed an open letter to President Nikos Christodoulides. The signatories expressed deep concern, regret, and anger regarding the current institutional instability at the Cyprus Youth Board (ONEK). They report that for the past six months, no applications for financial support for activities have been processed, causing significant uncertainty and operational difficulties for centers across Cyprus.

Volunteers emphasize that the institution of youth centers has functioned for nearly 65 years based on the selfless efforts of students, workers, and parents. They are demanding immediate intervention to restore the normal operation of ONEK, including the appointment of competent individuals to the Board of Directors, the clearance of all pending support applications, and a comprehensive revision of the legislation governing the organization. Furthermore, they are calling for the establishment of clear roles and accountability mechanisms to prevent similar administrative failures in the future.
