Nikos Nikolaou begins tenure with Cyprus U-17 national football team

The newly appointed head coach, Nikos Nikolaou, has officially begun preparations with the Cyprus U-17 national football team. The first training phase, which excludes players currently competing abroad, commenced last Monday at the Pyrgos community stadium. Nikolaou expressed confidence in the talent and quality of the young squad, emphasizing that internal competition is essential for achieving the federation’s long-term goal of qualifying for major tournaments.

To prepare for upcoming UEFA qualifying matches, the team is scheduled to play two friendly away games against Lithuania on September 8 and September 10. These matches are intended to help the coaching staff finalize the roster composition. The official competitive duties for the Cyprus U-17 team are set to take place in Cyprus in late October. Nikolaou noted that the development of these athletes is a priority and represents a significant responsibility for the national program.
