Mother and daughter die after wall collapses during floods in Spain

A mother and her 18-year-old daughter have died following injuries sustained during severe flash flooding in Roda de Bera, northeastern Spain, this past weekend. The tragedy occurred approximately 75 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, when the victims sought shelter in an outdoor market stall as torrential rains caused a boundary wall of a nearby residence to collapse on top of them.

The incident, which took place last Saturday, resulted in the two women being hospitalized in critical condition before they eventually succumbed to their injuries. Authorities confirmed the deaths today, prompting the Roda de Bera municipal government to declare two days of official mourning. Catalan President Salvador Illa publicly expressed his condolences and support to the affected family via social media.

The storm caused widespread disruption, including the evacuation of a campsite and a nightclub, and extensive flooding on local streets. While the two victims were among the three individuals initially reported injured at the harbor location, authorities noted that approximately ten people in total were injured across the region during the severe weather event.
