Devastating flash floods hit Nepal and Tibet border region

On August 26, 2026, severe flash floods and landslides caused widespread destruction across the Nepal-Tibet border, specifically impacting the Rasuwa district in Nepal and Gyirong county in Tibet. In Nepal, the deluge damaged infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and hydropower projects in the villages of Syabrubesi and Timure. Authorities report at least eight to nine deaths, while the Nepal Tourism Board states that 384 travelers, including 291 foreign nationals, are currently missing. Meanwhile, Chinese authorities reported major losses in Gyirong county following a massive landslide at the border crossing.
