TechIsland launches SafeIsland CY wildfire alert app

The non-profit organization TechIsland has officially launched a new mobile application called SafeIsland CY, which is currently available for iOS and Android devices in an initial pilot phase. Developed by Brickworks Games, the app serves as a community-powered public safety tool designed to help citizens report signs of wildfires, receive real-time alerts for nearby incidents, and access fire-safety information through an interactive map. The initiative was established following the severe wildfires of 2025 to bolster regional prevention, preparedness, and response strategies.

During the pilot period, the platform is being managed by Kitas Weather, which is responsible for providing timely updates and verifying information submitted by users. The application is specifically aimed at residents in rural and mountainous regions that are at higher risk for wildfires. By facilitating faster communication during the critical early minutes of an emergency, the developers hope to enhance public safety across Cyprus.

Stakeholders, including TechIsland, Brickworks Games, and Kitas Weather, are using this pilot phase to evaluate the platform's performance under real-life conditions. The team plans to gather feedback from users and relevant parties to refine the app’s functionality before future updates, marking a significant step in the organization's broader TechIsland Wildfire Initiative.
