Femicide reported in Rodopi, Greece

A 53-year-old man murdered his 44-year-old estranged wife in the settlement of Dialambi, Rodopi, on August 26, 2026. The incident occurred at the couple's home while their 16-year-old daughter was present. The victim had recently returned from working a seasonal job in Thasos to celebrate her daughter's birthday. The perpetrator stabbed the woman to death and subsequently attempted suicide by ingesting oil and inflicting wounds upon himself. One of the couple's children alerted the authorities, and responding officers recovered two knives at the scene for forensic analysis. The suspect was transported to Komotini Hospital, where he remains under police guard and is undergoing surgery.

Reports indicate the couple had a history of domestic discord. In 2022, while living in Heraklion, Crete, the victim filed a complaint against the man for threats, leading to his arrest and referral to a prosecutor at that time. Local media reported that the couple was living in a state of separation prior to this tragedy. The case is currently being treated as a femicide, and the authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the suspect's potential criminal intent.
