Environmental concerns raised over abandoned site at Faros beach in Pervolia

The Faros beach in Pervolia, Cyprus, has become a site of severe environmental degradation, according to a report from the Faros Beach Protection Initiative Group. As of late August 2026, the area is marred by an abandoned restaurant facility that has not been demolished despite previous mandates, leading to the systematic accumulation of waste in a public space.

The initiative group reports that the site is littered with sunbeds, mattresses, chairs, pallets, ropes, plastic waste, and damaged inflatable equipment from a former water park. These items remain exposed, creating a significant public nuisance. The organization has repeatedly contacted the Dromolaxia-Meneou Municipality, the Larnaca District Administration, and other relevant authorities over several months, yet the site remains in its current state of neglect.

Frustrated by the lack of official action, the group has submitted formal complaints to the Commissioner for the Environment and the Department of Environment. They are calling for the immediate demolition of the structure and the restoration of the coastal area. As of late August 2026, no intervention to clear the debris or address the illegal structure has been reported by the authorities, leaving the beach in a state of continued pollution.
