Bulgarian football fans detained ahead of AEK vs Levski Sofia match

Greek police have conducted intensive security checks across the national road network and the border with Bulgaria ahead of tonight’s Champions League playoff match between AEK and Levski Sofia at the Allwyn Arena. Authorities arrested seven Bulgarian nationals for violating weapons and sports legislation. Six individuals were apprehended at the Elefsina and Afidnes toll stations, where officers discovered several knives inside their vehicles. Additionally, a 29-year-old supporter was arrested at the Promachonas border crossing after police found a knife, a baton, and an aerosol spray in his possession.

The apprehended individuals have been taken to the Sub-directorate for the Addressing of Organized Sports Violence, where legal proceedings are underway. The 29-year-old suspect, who reportedly did not possess a ticket for the match, is being processed by the Sidirokastro Police Department. Reports from Bulgarian media also indicate that tensions flared during the transit of fan buses toward the stadium, requiring police to deploy tear gas to restore order and briefly halting the convoy. The match is scheduled to kick off at 22:00.
