Agriculture minister inspects waste management facilities in Pentakomo and Koshi

On August 26, 2026, Cyprus Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister Christos Senekis visited the integrated waste management facilities (OEDA) in Pentakomo and Koshi. The visit aimed to assess the operational status and address long-standing challenges accumulated at both sites. The minister was accompanied by the Director General of the Environment Department, Kostas Konstantinou, and other officials to coordinate efforts for the continued, smooth operation of these critical infrastructure points.

During the visit, it was announced that the final design for upgrading both facilities will be based on an ongoing study regarding the sustainability of the national municipal solid waste management infrastructure network. While this study is being finalized, the ministry is implementing immediate operational interventions to ensure service continuity. According to the minister, contracts for the major upgrades at the Pentakomo and Koshi facilities are projected to be awarded in 2027 and 2028, respectively. The government has been managing the Pentakomo facility directly since December 2023, and current efforts focus on integrating immediate functional improvements into the long-term strategic planning for the national waste management network.
