Cyprus government mandates stadium safety roadmap for football venues

On August 26, 2026, the Cypriot Minister of Justice held a meeting with representatives from the Police, the Stadium Licensing Authority, the Cyprus Sports Organization, and the Cyprus Football Association to address outstanding safety issues in local football stadiums. The stakeholders decided to establish a formal roadmap to resolve identified deficiencies as soon as possible, as some stadium licenses are set to expire on August 31.

Following the meeting, the Ministry of Justice and the Police issued a strict warning that the police will no longer provide security services for any football matches held in stadiums that fail to meet essential safety requirements. The Stadium Licensing Authority has been tasked with spearheading the roadmap in coordination with football and sports authorities. The Ministry and the Police will continue to oversee the implementation of these measures to ensure legal compliance and public safety at all venues.
