Cyprus prepares new housing support scheme for enclaved and resettled residents

The Cypriot government is currently finalizing a new support scheme aimed at the maintenance and repair of homes owned by enclaved and resettled Greek Cypriots living in the occupied northern territories. The initiative, led by Presidential Commissioner Marios Hartsiotis in collaboration with the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), aims to provide practical assistance to those living in challenging conditions.

Following a recent meeting between the Presidential Commissioner, representatives from the Ministry of Interior, and ETEK, officials are working to conclude the remaining procedural steps. This initiative follows earlier strategic discussions between Commissioner Hartsiotis and Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou, where it was agreed to accelerate the development of the plan. The project is part of a broader government policy designed to improve living standards and preserve the presence of these communities in their ancestral homes.

The relevant government departments are now finalizing the documentation necessary to submit the scheme for official approval. No specific implementation date has been announced, but the effort remains a priority for the government as it moves toward the final stage of planning.
