Authorities search for suspect in 500,000 euro cryptocurrency theft in Limassol

On August 23, 2026, a significant cryptocurrency theft occurred in Limassol, Cyprus, involving the loss of 500,000 euros. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Romanian national Mares Andreea Georgeta, allegedly posed as a broker to facilitate the sale of shares to a foreign company. During a meeting with the victim, the suspect misled him, obtained access to his ledger wallet credentials, and transferred the funds to an unknown account.

Following a thorough investigation by the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (TAE), authorities confirmed the identity of the suspect. It was discovered that Georgeta departed from Cyprus on the same day the crime was committed. Consequently, a local arrest warrant has been issued, and police are currently preparing to initiate European and international arrest warrants.
