Undeclared luxury goods seized at Russia-Estonia border

On August 27, 2026, Russian customs authorities intercepted a 60-year-old man at the Shumilkino border crossing between Estonia and Russia. The individual was traveling from Cyprus to St. Petersburg when officials discovered a large quantity of undeclared women's clothing and perfumes in his luggage.

The seized items included luxury lingerie, shoes, scarves, swimsuits, dresses, and pyjamas. The total value of the goods was estimated at 925,000 Russian rubles. While the man claimed he was transporting a parcel for a friend and insisted the clothing was second-hand, an official expert examination determined the items showed no signs of previous use.

Under the regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union, all goods imported into the territory exceeding a value of 500 euros must be declared, and appropriate customs duties must be paid. As the items were not declared, administrative proceedings have been initiated against the man for violating customs regulations.
