Ukraine and Russia may resume peace talks with US mediation in September

Kirilo Budanov, Chief of Staff to the Ukrainian President, announced that peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia could resume as early as September. These potential discussions are expected to involve American representatives, as the Ukrainian government maintains that successful diplomatic progress is not achievable without United States participation.

The peace process, which previously stalled earlier this year, was hindered by Ukraine’s refusal to cede additional territory to Russia and by the United States’ shifting focus toward the conflict in Iran. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently indicated that Kyiv has been working with American and European officials to develop a set of proposals to present to Moscow, with the goal of utilizing American mediation efforts by the end of next summer.

While previous rounds of trilateral talks involving the US, Ukraine, and Russia have occurred in the past, these efforts had been frozen. Currently, officials are aiming to revive the framework, with further developments anticipated in the coming month as both sides look to move beyond the current deadlock.
