Fatal explosion at Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia

A massive fire and explosion occurred earlier this week at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex, an industrial project under construction near the town of Svobodny in Russia’s Far East. The facility is a joint venture between the Russian firm Sibur and the Chinese company Sinopec, designed to be one of the world's largest producers of polyethylene and polypropylene. Following initial reports of three fatalities, the death toll has risen to 15 people, with 14 of the victims identified as foreign nationals.

In addition to the fatalities, 39 workers remain hospitalized, including nine individuals who were transported to Moscow for further treatment. The operating company confirmed that the fire started in an auxiliary area and did not damage the main production equipment. Currently, the Russian Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into potential violations of industrial safety regulations to determine the cause of the disaster. Search and rescue operations continue at the site as authorities assess the structural integrity and security protocols of the project.
