Chelsea in negotiations to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez
Chelsea is currently engaged in negotiations with Aston Villa to secure the transfer of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The London club is seeking a replacement for Robert Sanchez, who has failed to perform at a required level during the opening of the new season, leading Chelsea to look for an upgrade in the goalpost position.
Reports from David Ornstein and Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo indicate that discussions between the two clubs are active. Martinez, who has been with Aston Villa since 2020, has reportedly already given his approval for the move to Stamford Bridge. While specific financial terms have not been disclosed, there is significant optimism from both sides that a deal will be successfully finalized. Since joining the Birmingham-based club, the Argentinian goalkeeper has made 256 appearances and kept 80 clean sheets, also contributing to the team's success in winning the Europa League last season.
Previously, there was speculation regarding a potential transfer for the goalkeeper to Juventus, but those discussions did not materialize. As of now, all parties are working toward an agreement to finalize his move to London.
