Cyprus University of Technology and Polemidia Municipality accelerate solar park project

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the Rector of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK), Professor Panagiotis Zaphiris, and the Mayor of Polemidia, Andreas Theodorou, held a meeting to discuss the acceleration of joint development projects. A primary focus of the meeting was the progress of the planned 9 MW photovoltaic park, which is to be built on land owned by the municipality.

The collaboration between the two institutions originated from an agreement signed in May 2024, initially involving the former Kato Polemidia Municipality. The project is a key component of their mutual strategy to promote green energy transition and sustainable development in the region. During the meeting, Mayor Theodorou provided an update on the current administrative and approval processes required for the park's construction.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to the initiative, agreeing to intensify coordination efforts to expedite the remaining procedural steps. While the project is currently in the planning and approval phase, officials emphasized the importance of the facility for regional energy sustainability, with further discussions held regarding broader regional development strategies involving the university and the local authority.
