EU trade growth and Cyprus real estate market activity in early 2026
Eurostat data for the second quarter of 2026 shows a 9.9 percent increase in EU imports from non-EU countries, totaling €701.8 billion, while exports rose by 5.4 percent to €680.0 billion. China remained the primary trade partner, accounting for €153.6 billion of imports, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom. Year-on-year, imports from these regions showed significant growth, with the exception of Turkey, which saw a slight decline.
Simultaneously, the Cypriot real estate market experienced a slowdown during the first half of 2026. Data from Landbank Analytics indicates that 3,594 property transactions occurred, valued at €1.15 billion. While the first quarter saw 2,277 transactions worth €749 million, activity dropped to 1,317 transactions valued at €400 million in the second quarter. Nicosia led in transaction volume, Limassol in total value, and Paphos recorded the highest prices. This cooling trend in the second quarter reflects a shifting market dynamic across all provinces, characterized by a reduction in total sales compared to the start of the year.
