Car fire reported in Peristerona, Nicosia
A car fire occurred in the early hours of August 28, 2026, in the village of Peristerona, located in the Nicosia district. Around 3:15 a.m., a vehicle parked under an open shed outside the residence of its 75-year-old owner caught fire. The owner managed to extinguish the flames herself before they could cause further destruction to the property.
The fire resulted in damage to the front portion of the vehicle and the front windshield. Following the incident, members of the Cyprus Police and the Fire Service arrived at the scene to conduct an initial investigation. The area was cordoned off to allow for a more thorough examination during the morning hours to determine the exact cause of the ignition.
The case is currently being investigated by the Morphou Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Authorities are working to establish whether the fire was accidental or malicious, as part of a wider string of recent vehicle-related incidents in the region. There are no reports of injuries to the owner or others in the vicinity during the event.
