US Treasury to host G20 finance meeting in North Carolina

United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is set to host finance ministers and central bank governors from the G20 nations in Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday and Tuesday. This meeting marks the U.S. return to active participation following its absence from last year's summit, which was held under the presidency of South Africa.

The primary agenda for the summit includes discussions on stimulating global economic growth, addressing international imbalances, and managing sovereign debt challenges. In addition to these economic issues, a high-ranking official from the U.S. Treasury Department announced that the Trump administration intends to pressure the attending global leaders to cut off economic support channels currently sustaining Iran.

The discussions aim to secure a multilateral consensus among the world's 20 largest economies regarding financial stability and geopolitical strategies. The upcoming summit in the Blue Ridge mountains is expected to serve as a platform for the administration to align international economic policy with its specific national security objectives regarding the Iranian government.
