Local authorities meet with government officials regarding development and funding in Polis Chrysochous

On August 27 and 28, 2026, the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous hosted a series of strategic meetings to address regional development and municipal challenges. Mayor Yiotis Papachristofis met with the President of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, Andreas Vyras, to discuss the implementation of the "Pay As You Throw" waste system, the necessity of establishing a municipal police force, and the pressing demand for increased state subsidies to offset inflation.

On August 28, the Mayor and the Municipal Council held a follow-up meeting with the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, to review the progress of critical infrastructure projects. This discussion followed initial talks held on July 3, 2026, in Nicosia. Key projects under review include the expansion of the Latchi port and the Pomos fishing shelter, the construction of breakwaters in Chrysochous Bay, the development of a coastal footpath, and the installation of a desalination plant. Additionally, the construction of sewage and rainwater drainage systems was addressed. The local authorities emphasized the urgent need for the government to remain committed to established timelines to ensure the region's sustainable growth.
