Cyprus defense minister announces closure of Tseri shooting range

On August 28, 2026, Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas announced that the countdown has begun for the permanent closure of the Tseri shooting range. Regarding the shooting range at Kalo Chorio, near Agia Anna, the Minister stated that relocation is currently not possible despite local residents' requests. The site has recently come under scrutiny following the discovery of two unexploded projectiles during firefighting operations in the area. Minister Palmas characterized public concern as understandable but described the presence of duds in such zones as common. To improve safety and oversight, the government has implemented a 24-hour guard post and is currently evaluating the installation of surveillance cameras to secure the area and ensure no unauthorized entry occurs.

The Defense Ministry aims to eliminate risks by ensuring all projectiles are destroyed following military exercises. These measures remain in place as the investigation into the site's management continues.
