Fuel price trends and EU comparative analysis as of August 2026

Data from the European Commission’s EU Oil Bulletin released in late August 2026 highlights significant fluctuations in fuel costs across European Union member states. Comparing figures from February 23, 2026, to mid-August, Cyprus saw a 27-cent increase per liter for 95-octane unleaded gasoline and a 36-cent rise for diesel. While these increases are substantial, they remain below the EU-27 average of 29 cents for gasoline and 44 cents for diesel.

As of late August 2026, the retail price for 95-octane gasoline in Cyprus stands at €1.59 per liter, ranking the country sixth cheapest among the 27 member states. Meanwhile, the average price for diesel in Cyprus is reported at €1.83 per liter. EU-wide, the average retail price is €1.94 for gasoline and €2.06 for diesel. Malta, Poland, and Bulgaria offer some of the lowest prices, whereas consumers in the Netherlands, Germany, and Finland face the highest costs in the bloc.
