Severe weather and temperature drop expected in Cyprus

Meteorological authorities in Cyprus have issued a forecast for a significant weather shift on Saturday, August 29. Senior Meteorological Officer Michalis Mouskos confirmed that the island will experience a noticeable drop in temperatures alongside severe rain and storm activity lasting from the morning until the early evening.

Temperatures are expected to plummet from Friday's highs of approximately 39 degrees Celsius inland and 34 degrees at the coast to roughly 30 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Authorities have planned to issue an official weather warning on Friday afternoon, which is likely to be categorized as orange due to the potential intensity of the storms. Officials have advised drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads during the period of poor weather.

Following Saturday’s instability, conditions are expected to gradually improve. Temperatures will begin to rise again on Sunday, returning to seasonal averages of approximately 36 degrees inland and 32 degrees at the coast by Tuesday. However, lingering weather instability may result in isolated rainfall in mountainous regions through Monday and Tuesday, with occasional showers and hail possible as early as Friday.
