Cypriot president's official visit to Kazakhstan strengthens bilateral ties

In early June 2026, President Nikos Christodoulides conducted the first-ever official visit of a Cypriot leader to Kazakhstan, aiming to deepen diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations. The visit was marked by the presentation of Kazakhstan's highest state honor, the Order of Friendship, to President Christodoulides, which officials identified as a clear recognition of the existing bilateral partnership.

The Cypriot Presidency emphasized that the visit reaffirmed Kazakhstan's support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, in accordance with United Nations resolutions. Furthermore, the meetings aimed to establish a structured framework for cooperation in key sectors, including energy, shipping, transport, technology, cybersecurity, health, and tourism.

Looking ahead, both countries have identified significant prospects for tangible economic results. Cyprus intends to position itself as a strategic gateway for Kazakhstan into the European Union and the Eastern Mediterranean markets.
