Rescue efforts continue in Nepal following devastating floods

Devastating floods in Nepal and Tibet have resulted in at least 580 deaths and approximately 2,500 people reported missing. Amid the widespread destruction, rescue teams have reported rare survival stories, including the rescue of 94-year-old Gunakesari Bohara. Bohara, the sole survivor from a state-run nursing home in the Rasuwa district, was extracted from the rubble by the Nepalese army using an excavator. She was subsequently transported to the Kathmandu Trauma Centre for medical care, though she remains in a state of shock and was unable to communicate due to dementia.

In a separate incident, 8-year-old Zoyal Ghale was reunited with his 28-year-old mother, Mati Maya Tamang, after surviving the floods by climbing a tree. The boy had been airlifted from the Rasuwa region on Thursday with a broken leg and facial abrasions. His mother had spent days searching various shelters for her children, fearing they had perished at their school. The region remains in a humanitarian crisis as relief operations continue to locate survivors and provide aid to the displaced.
