ETEK president proposes stress tests for Nestor emergency response plan

Following a serious traffic accident on the Nicosia–Larnaca highway this past Thursday, the president of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), Constantinos Constantis, has called for comprehensive stress tests of the 'Nestor' emergency response plan. Although the implementation of the plan during the recent incident was viewed as a positive step, Constantis emphasized that the system must be tested across a variety of hypothetical scenarios to ensure its long-term effectiveness.

Constantis noted that ETEK has been advocating for such a framework for years. He argued that the current evaluation should go beyond the response to last Thursday's crash. Specifically, he recommended drills that account for diverse challenges, such as fuel spills or other specialized emergencies, to clarify the operational responsibilities of all involved agencies. The primary goal of these future exercises is to define clear lines of command and action, ensuring that authorities are prepared for various crisis intensities rather than relying on a static response model.
