Greece and Israel to sign Achilles Shield defense agreement
On August 31, 2026, Greece and Israel are scheduled to sign a major agreement in Tel Aviv to implement the "Achilles Shield" project. This multi-layered air and missile defense system, valued at approximately 3 billion euros, is designed to bolster Greek national security.
The contract will be finalized between the General Directorate for Defense Investments and Armaments of the Greek Ministry of National Defense and the International Defense Cooperation Directorate (SIBAT) of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, along with various involved Israeli defense companies. The project was officially approved by the Governmental Council for National Security (KYSEA) on July 23, 2026. Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias confirmed that the system is expected to be fully operational within 35 months of the signing.
