Greece and Israel to sign the Achilles Shield defense agreement

On Monday, August 31, 2026, Greece and Israel are scheduled to sign a multi-billion-euro defense agreement in Tel Aviv. The deal concerns the procurement of the "Achilles Shield," an integrated, multi-layered air and missile defense system designed to counter ballistic missiles, aircraft, and drones using advanced Israeli radar and weapon technologies.

The agreement will be finalized between the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of the Greek Ministry of National Defence and the Israeli International Defence Cooperation Directorate (SIBAT), alongside participating Israeli defense companies. The project, which involves a total investment slightly exceeding €3 billion, received formal approval from the Greek Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA) on July 23, 2026. According to Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias, the system is expected to be fully operational within 35 months, with equipment being delivered in progressive stages rather than a single phase.
