Contract signed for new environmental centre at Larnaca salt lakes

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, the Larnaca Municipality signed a €245,000 contract with the company 38251ARCHITECTS L.L.C. for the design and supervision of a new Environmental Information Centre located within the Natura 2000 protected zone at the Larnaca salt lakes. The project is being implemented under the EU-co-funded Thalia 2021-2027 cohesion policy program and is scheduled to be completed in 2029, following a 44-month implementation period.

The initiative aims to raise public awareness regarding the ecological significance of the salt lakes. The construction project includes the main building, associated landscaping, and protective measures for the area. Planned additions feature a trail connection, an observatory, rest areas, and the planting of endemic plant species. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras emphasized that the facility will strengthen the connection between visitors and the local natural environment. Once operational, the center will be managed by the Environment Department.
