Tender launched for the Deneia-Akaki-Astromeritis highway project

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works of Cyprus officially announced the tender for the design and construction of the Deneia-Akaki-Astromeritis highway on August 28, 2026. This infrastructure project, valued at approximately 138 million euros, involves creating an 18-kilometer, four-lane motorway. The new route will bypass the communities of Akaki, Peristerona, and Astromeritis in the Nicosia District, establishing a vital connection between the existing Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithia (A9) highway and the recently completed Astromeritis-Eurychou section.

Technical specifications for the project include two traffic lanes in each direction, four grade-separated junctions, two major viaducts over the Akaki and Peristerona rivers, and four additional bridges. The development also provides for various overpasses, underpasses, and a secondary road network to serve local community needs. The construction phase is expected to last approximately 54 months, with an anticipated start date within the first half of 2027.

This project represents Phase C of the comprehensive Nicosia-Troodos highway master plan. Previous stages included the Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithia (Phase A) and the Kokkinotrimithia-Deneia (Phase B) segments, while the Astromeritis-Eurychou section is designated as Phase D. Interested parties must submit their bids by December 18, 2026.
