Argentine Football Association appeals sanctions following World Cup final incidents

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has announced its intention to appeal disciplinary sanctions imposed by FIFA following the incidents that occurred after the World Cup final against Spain. The penalties include a ten-match ban and a 77,000 euro fine for Leandro Paredes, a seven-match ban and a 77,000 euro fine for Nahuel Molina, and one-match bans with 25,000 euro fines for Thiago Almada and assistant coach Roberto Ayala. Additionally, the AFA has been fined 265,000 euros for collective misconduct, discriminatory or racist incidents, and public order disturbances.

The AFA plans to contest these decisions through the FIFA Appeals Committee and is prepared to escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if necessary. While the federation challenges the severity of the individual player suspensions, FIFA has granted the AFA's request to allow these sanctions to be served during upcoming category A friendly matches or official competitions. The legal proceedings are currently ongoing as the federation seeks to overturn or reduce the issued penalties.
