Cyprus, Greece, and Bulgaria conduct first joint forced return flight with Frontex

On August 26, 2026, the Republic of Cyprus, in coordination with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), executed its first joint forced return flight of third-country nationals residing illegally in its territory. The operation was organized by the Aliens and Immigration Service with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection.

A total of 51 individuals were returned to their countries of origin via this chartered flight. Of these, 35 were removed from Cyprus, 15 from Greece, and one from Bulgaria. This mission represents an intensification of regional cooperation between the three nations to manage migration flows and enforce immigration laws.

This initiative follows a significant increase in enforcement activity by Cypriot authorities. According to official data, from the beginning of 2026 through August 26, the Republic of Cyprus has successfully repatriated 6,027 third-country nationals through both voluntary and forced return procedures. The operation underscores the commitment of the participating countries to streamline the removal process for individuals without legal status.
