Cyprus Police conduct nationwide preventive security operations

Between August 30 and September 1, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of targeted preventive operations across the country to maintain public order and enhance public safety. These operations involved organized patrols in key urban areas, inspections of hundreds of vehicles, and checks on dozens of premises. Over the three-day period, officers arrested a total of 24 individuals for various offenses, including burglary, drug possession, illegal residency, traffic violations, and assault on police officers. Traffic enforcement remained a significant focus, with hundreds of tickets issued for speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, leading to the detention of multiple vehicles.

Separately, the British Bases Police reported 30 arrests over the final week of August, including specific drug-related offenses discovered during road safety campaigns in the Akrotiri and Episkopi areas. Authorities have confirmed that these nationwide crime prevention and suppression efforts will continue on a daily basis, with increased vigilance, as investigations into the reported traffic and criminal cases remain ongoing.
