Cyprus police conduct nationwide security operations resulting in six arrests
On the night of August 28-29, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of coordinated, nationwide security operations targeting major urban areas. The primary objectives of these patrols were to prevent serious criminal activity, maintain public order, and increase the public's sense of safety.
The operations resulted in the arrest of six individuals for various offenses, including illegal drug possession, illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities conducted 637 traffic stops and checked 233 passengers, leading to 321 traffic-related reports, including 82 for speeding. In one specific instance, a driver was recorded traveling at 124 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Additionally, 74 inspections of commercial establishments were carried out, resulting in 15 complaints, and 13 vehicles were impounded for further investigation.
