Police conduct nationwide security operations in Cyprus
Cypriot police conducted a series of coordinated, nationwide security operations on the nights of August 29 and August 30, 2026. The initiatives aimed to prevent serious criminal activity, ensure public order, and enhance the overall sense of security for citizens. Officers performed extensive patrols at key urban locations, targeting various offenses including traffic violations, substance abuse, and illegal immigration.
During the most recent operations, authorities checked 695 vehicles and 916 individuals, leading to the arrest of eight people for offenses such as building burglary, possession of burglary tools, drug possession, illegal stay in the country, and driving under the influence. Law enforcement also conducted 58 inspections of business premises, resulting in six formal complaints. Furthermore, officers issued 340 traffic violation reports, including 83 citations for speeding and 29 for impaired driving, and seized 22 vehicles. These actions follow earlier, slightly smaller-scale operations that took place on the previous night, where six arrests were made alongside hundreds of vehicle and premises checks.
