Two men arrested in Nepal for stealing from flood victim

Authorities in Nepal have arrested 25-year-old Madan Gurung and 38-year-old Umesh Chaudhary following the circulation of a disturbing video on social media. The footage depicts the two men using wooden logs to pull the body of a woman, who had been swept away by floodwaters, to the banks of the Narayani River. Once at the shore, one of the men was filmed removing earrings from the deceased woman's ears.

The incident occurred in the aftermath of deadly floods that have ravaged Nepal, causing widespread devastation and loss of life. After the video went viral and sparked public outrage, the Chitwan police launched an investigation and successfully identified the suspects. They were apprehended by officers at a bus station in Bharatpur on August 28, 2026. The act of desecration has been widely condemned as a callous exploitation of a humanitarian crisis.

While the investigation remains ongoing, local authorities have stated that such acts of looting against victims will not be tolerated.
