Three suspects arrested in Cyprus over planned contract killings

Police in Cyprus, in collaboration with Danish authorities and Europol, arrested three individuals on August 28, 2026, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and participation in a criminal organization. The operation took place in the districts of Larnaca and Famagusta following intelligence received from Denmark regarding planned contract killings intended to be carried out on the island.

Following the arrests, the suspects appeared before the Famagusta District Court on Saturday, August 29, 2026, where they were remanded in custody for a period of eight days. Police spokesperson Byron Byronos confirmed that the operation involved coordinated surveillance and the collection of evidence facilitated by international police cooperation.
