Three men arrested in Cyprus for conspiracy to commit murder

Cypriot authorities, in collaboration with Danish law enforcement and Europol, have arrested two Norwegian nationals and one Irish national on charges of conspiracy to murder and participation in a criminal organization. The suspects were apprehended in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts following a coordinated operation. The plot aimed at the assassination of twin British brothers who were expected to visit Cyprus for vacation. The targets are reportedly known to foreign authorities and have a criminal background.

Investigations revealed that the suspects attempted to solicit a contract killer via the dark web for an agreed fee of 85,000 euros. The operation was thwarted when the suspects unknowingly contacted an undercover Danish police officer, who was posing as a hitman. The undercover officer subsequently worked with Cypriot special investigative units to dismantle the plot. Additionally, evidence suggests the suspects planned to procure ammunition from Turkey.

The three suspects appeared before the Famagusta District Court, which ordered their detention for eight days. They currently refuse to cooperate with authorities, who remain in contact with Europol and British counterparts to locate the potential targets and clarify the motive behind the planned hit.
