Cypriot-British businessman killed in road accident in North London

Philip Filippou, a 65-year-old Cypriot-British businessman, died in a traffic accident on the morning of Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The incident occurred on the Great North Road in Potters Bar, North London, when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a bus. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 8:30 a.m., where authorities pronounced his death instantaneous. The bus driver has been arrested by the police on suspicion of careless driving, and an investigation into the circumstances of the collision is currently underway.

Filippou was a well-known figure in the London Cypriot community. In 2006, he co-founded the real estate firm Stef & Philips with his children, Chris and Joanne. Beyond his professional career, he was widely recognized for his philanthropy through the Stef & Philips Foundation, which supported underprivileged families, single mothers, and individuals with disabilities. He was also a prominent financial supporter of Omonia London youth football teams. Herts Police are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
