Two injured in petrol station fire in Larnaca district

A fire occurred at a petrol station in the Larnaca district around midnight on Friday night, resulting in injuries to two men. A 32-year-old Greek Cypriot man was in the process of refuelling his vehicle when he was approached by a 38-year-old Anglo-Cypriot man who had an unlit cigarette in his mouth. When the 38-year-old attempted to light the cigarette using a lighter, it caused an immediate ignition and fire.

Bystanders at the scene managed to extinguish the flames before emergency services arrived. Both men were transported to the Larnaca Accident and Emergency Department. The 32-year-old sustained minor burns, received treatment, and was subsequently discharged. The 38-year-old remains hospitalized with second- and third-degree burns, primarily on his lower limbs. The Kofinou Police Station is currently investigating the incident as a case of negligent and reckless acts.
