Two men injured in fire at Larnaca petrol station

A serious incident occurred around midnight on Friday at a petrol station in a village within the Larnaca district, resulting in injuries to two men. The incident took place while a 32-year-old Greek Cypriot was refueling his vehicle. A 38-year-old Anglo-Cypriot man approached him with an unlit cigarette and attempted to light it using a lighter, which triggered an immediate ignition and fire.

Other individuals present at the scene successfully extinguished the flames before authorities arrived. Both men were transported to the Larnaca Accident and Emergency Department. The 32-year-old received treatment for minor burns and was subsequently discharged. The 38-year-old was admitted to the hospital, where he remains under medical care for second- and third-degree burns, with injuries primarily affecting his lower limbs.

The Kofinou Police Station has launched an investigation into the matter, treating the case as one of negligent and reckless acts. The incident highlights the severe dangers associated with smoking near flammable fuel sources, and authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the event.
