Seven arrests made following violent attack at Nea Salamina fan event
Between August 23 and 24, 2026, a violent incident occurred at the auxiliary pitch of the Ammochostos Stadium in Larnaca during a fan day event hosted by the football club Nea Salamina. A group of 40-50 hooded individuals attacked attendees with clubs, resulting in injuries to three people, including a 21-year-old who was treated at Nicosia General Hospital. Local reports suggest the attack was retaliatory, allegedly carried out by fans of AEK Larnaca due to disputes over graffiti.
Following the event, the police initiated a large-scale investigation to identify the perpetrators. Authorities initially identified dozens of suspects and requested public assistance. By August 31, 2026, police had successfully arrested seven individuals, including a 22-year-old who surrendered voluntarily, as well as a 17-year-old minor, two 18-year-olds, two 21-year-olds, and a 24-year-old. The 22-year-old appeared in court and was remanded for four days, while the others are scheduled for a remand hearing. Police investigations remain ongoing to locate remaining suspects and identify over 20 additional individuals captured on video footage during the clash.
