Businessman Dimis Mavropoulos dies in boat tragedy off Cape Greco

On August 29, 2026, 76-year-old businessman Dimis Mavropoulos died after his boat, the Perla Bianca, was swept onto rocks by rough seas near Cape Greco. The incident occurred during severe weather conditions that also affected other vessels, resulting in a total of three boats sinking in the area. A coordinated search and rescue operation by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) successfully saved several individuals, including Mavropoulos' daughter and his partner, who reportedly jumped into the sea with life vests before the vessel was destroyed.

An autopsy conducted by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou confirmed that Mavropoulos died from drowning, compounded by multiple bodily injuries sustained during the collision.
