Israeli military operations in Jenin and Gaza
On August 28, 2026, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a rare drone strike in Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank. The military stated the operation targeted the head of a Palestinian militant cell and two accomplices inside their vehicle. This incident follows a pattern of over 100 similar drone-based airstrikes conducted in the West Bank between October 2023 and early 2025.
Separately, on August 29, 2026, the Israeli military announced a strike targeting a Hamas commander positioned within the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital complex in Deir al-Balah, Gaza. The IDF claimed the commander was planning attacks against Israeli citizens and soldiers. The hospital reported that three individuals were injured during the strike, which occurred near the maternity ward storage area. The Israeli military maintained that it had previously warned local health authorities to cease the use of medical facilities for militant activities and stated it took measures to limit civilian risk during the operation.
