Milo Yiannopoulos arrested by ICE in New Orleans for visa overstay

British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, aged 41, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on August 27 at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Yiannopoulos entered the country legally on May 14, 2019, but failed to depart after his visa expired. Consequently, he has been taken into custody at a detention center in Louisiana awaiting deportation.

Following his failure to appear at a scheduled hearing, an immigration judge issued a final order for his deportation on July 22. This development is notable because Yiannopoulos, a prominent alt-right figure, had previously campaigned for strict immigration enforcement, including the use of ICE checkpoints and summary deportations of undocumented individuals. The case currently highlights the enforcement of existing visa regulations against those who overstay their authorized period of legal residency.
