Fatal shooting at rave party in Aarau, Switzerland
In the early hours of Sunday, August 30, 2026, a shooting occurred at the Schachen racecourse in Aarau, Switzerland, during the aftermath of an event known as "Aarau Rave VOL. 7." Although the event officially concluded at 2:00 a.m., shots were fired around 2:30 a.m. while approximately 100 people were still on the premises. Witnesses initially confused the sound of gunfire for fireworks, but reports confirmed that several gunshots were fired in rapid succession.
The attack resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Italian woman who resided in Switzerland. Additionally, five individuals—four men and one woman aged between 24 and 27—sustained injuries. According to authorities, these five victims are all Swiss residents, including two additional Italian nationals, and none are currently in life-threatening condition.
Swiss police have launched a massive, ongoing manhunt for three unidentified perpetrators. Cantonal Police Commander Michael Leupold confirmed that investigations are active and have requested public assistance in the form of videos or photos of the incident. While Switzerland maintains high rates of gun ownership, violent shootings of this nature are rare. The motive behind the attack remains unknown as authorities continue to process the scene and search for the suspects.
