Taliban technical staff arrive in Germany to facilitate deportations

The de facto Taliban government has temporarily sent additional personnel to diplomatic missions in Germany following an agreement with Berlin. The German Foreign Ministry stated on Saturday that this measure aims to facilitate the planned increase in deportations of hundreds of Afghan nationals. To achieve this goal, the Afghan authorities must issue official identity documents, requiring the fulfillment of specific technical conditions. Consequently, a team of technical support staff has been granted temporary entry into Germany to ensure these procedural requirements are met.

According to the German Interior Ministry, 228 men—mostly convicted criminals—have been deported to Afghanistan since the current parliamentary term began in March 2025. The most recent operation involved a special flight carrying 23 individuals. These efforts represent a pragmatic shift in German policy, focusing on legalizing the return of foreign nationals by establishing the necessary administrative framework for identification and transport.
